Astronauts now get regular fresh food deliveries, as well as harvest from a few crops like lettuce. With the ISS came more room, better support facilities and longer mission times, so food became better and more varied. ![]() If you are such a person, this article is for you. From the architecture to the interior décor and to their bed frames, these people will have a theme of keeping everything look as unusual and unconventional as they can. Outside of all these categories lie people who want their houses to look as artistic as possible. Some people prefer a subtle, simple house, some prefer old-style vintage decor, while some people are drawn towards modern styles. When there are billions of people with unique intricate personalities, there will be numerous types of designs for houses. It is said that your home reflects what kind of a person you are. This article covers a comprehensive guide that will familiarize you with different types of unique window covering ideas. Whether you’re looking for simple roller shades, preppy pleats, or fanciful ruffles, you’re sure to find inspiration for 33 designs that will suit the style of your window, your room, and, most of all, you.Are you looking for unique window covering ideas? Do you want something different, something a little bit out of the blue, for your home windows? Well, you are at the right place. ![]() Of course, there may be a more natural solution-especially for first-floor bedroom ideas, as Maestri says: “even just greenery on the exterior can add strategic privacy.” If you’re looking for an alternative to fabric-heavy options like drapery panels or floor-to-ceiling curtains, Dillion recommends inset-mounted woven shades “that provide texture and interest but are not too distracting to the eye.” Stained glass windows and exterior solar shades are among Spath’s non-curtain ideas-and won’t detract from the architecture. Maybe you’re not big on dusting, or maybe you just don’t want to shell out all your shekels for draperies. Sheers frame the window nicely and give an extra layer to make the home even cozier.” Perhaps thanks to grandmillennials everywhere, Maestri is seeing a triumphant return of “old-school cornice boards and even new takes on balloon shades, as well as micro-shutters.” What can I use instead of curtains? “It gives window treatments a softer look and isn’t as heavy. “A lot of my clients are wanting to use fabrics that are light and airy, like linens,” says Susan Spath, principal of Solana Beach, California-based firm Kern & Co. It’s not something that you want to “overdo” and then be tired of the pattern or detailing in a few years,” Smith says. Whatever you select, just remember: “Drapery is a huge part of the budget, so we want them to last. Miriam Dillion of Washington, D.C.’s, Barnes Vanze Architects notes that clients are asking for automated Roman shades behind more traditional pleated panels, while Eddie Maestri, principal architect, creative director and owner of Dallas-based Maestri Studio, sees both panels and Roman shades taking top place. If you’re a “more is more” kind of person, you’re in luck too: “We’re definitely seeing a rise of the draperies that have a cornice over them, and tassels, trims, and tie-backs,” Smith says. ![]() “It may not be the trend but is always beautiful, light, and fresh in more traditional window coverings.” Pinch pleats are also a go-to of Minnesota designer Bria Hammel, who likes that they appear tailored and classic “without being too fussy” (a major boon). “Simplicity is timeless and never really goes out of style,” says Dorset, Vermont-based designer Joshua Smith, who loves tailored European pinch pleats and classic Roman shades. Thankfully, designers were willing to weigh in with insider home decor tips. Wading through window treatment ideas comes with a problem on par with ordering coffee at Starbucks: too many options. Additionally, a sheer panel acts as a petticoat, gently adding a soft layer that blocks unsightly objects or harsh light.” “Patterned draperies can add depth and create a focal point in a room, whereas natural woven or solid-textured panels add an additional layer of detail to a space. “Regardless of your intention, window treatments are the perfect way to enhance or soften a room,” Houston designer Kara Childress says. What’s more, window coverings add privacy, conserve energy, and bring an extra element of pattern or color into a space. ![]() Window treatment ideas-curtains, shades, and blinds-shouldn’t be an afterthought but an important part of room design. It’s a hard truth to admit: Just as most people look better with clothes on (sorry, it’s true!), windows do too. ![]() ![]() ![]() The 1.5x yield of batter and berries creates the strawberry summer sheet cake I’ve always needed and finally have. I’m not sure why it took me until this summer to get it right, but I finally realized that I was scaling it wrong. The cake was too thick and 2 pounds of berries never fit on top, meaning you’ll use less, and if you use less, the cake is, in my opinion, way less spectacular. For years, if anyone asked about making it in a 9×13 pan, I gave my default answer: double it! For most cakes, this absolutely works. A cake like this is here to make friends, and eight wedges never last. But I hadn’t expected on a site with many other cakes with fresh fruit in them for it to so quickly take off, ultimately joining the small club of recipes on SK with more than 1000 comments.* The only thing that’s never right about it, however, is the size. If you can bear to wait half to a full day to eat it, and really let those baked berries marry with the cake, you might swear off all other summer desserts.Ĭlearly, I’m a fan. The edges of the cake brown and become faintly crisp. The sunken berries dimple the top like a country quilt. In the oven, the batter buckles around the berries, turning them into jammy puddles, especially if your strawberries are a touch overripe. There’s a full pound of berries placed on top before you bake the cake, more than easily fit. ![]() There’s seemingly nothing new or revolutionary but what differentiates it from other summer cakes is the sheer volume of strawberries. The berries are fresh, hulled and halved. The batter is a simple cake - butter, sugar, flour, eggs, milk. Eight years ago, I wrote about a strawberry cake I’d been making and tweaking from Martha Stewart since, apparently, 2005 that felt to me like the epitome of early summer. ![]() ![]() That package includes MyLink Navigation and a Bose Premium sound system for $2,620. Our tester in Premier trim, starts at just $33,600 in front-wheel-drive flavor, and came with a host of options, including a massive panoramic sunroof, something I wouldn’t option. Still this a family car not a sports car so this is to be expected. That said under full throttle the engine although smooth, sounds a bit buzzy and characterless. It’s quiet too, the interior volume muted at high speeds with only a hint of wind noise around the side mirrors. The brake pedal is firm underfoot and it’s easy to modulate providing jerk free stops for passenger comfort. Grip is pretty good from the 19-inch rubber provided and the brakes had fade free stopping from high speeds. When you don’t do that it’s not a bad system compared to some cars but it could be a bit smoother. I would sometimes hold the brake with my left foot and squeeze the gas a tad to fire up the engine at stop lights. The steering weight and feel is pretty good for this type of car, it lets you know what the front wheels are doing.Īll Chevy’s, with the exception the performance variants, have automatic stop-start which can’t be defeated. Fling it into a sharp corner and it pulls itself around with little fuss, dive in too fast and the front end eventually gives way to under steer. Ride quality except over rough ridges is very good and even at high speed the car remains very stable and composed. This is probably one of the easiest cars you’ll ever drive, mainly because there are huge gobs of torque available at almost any time and the super smooth 9-speed transmission. It’s a handsome looking car both inside and out, and GM’s updated design language translates well, it’s sleek, crisp lines and bold creases and angles give it a more aggressive modern look. It took a couple of tries to get the best out of it, the front tires do scrabble for grip under full load but the quick shifting 9-speed makes it all very smooth. Having said that the FWD version is quick, with a 0-60 time of 6.4 seconds. My tester was a FWD and having spent a week with torque steer I think if I were to buy one I would opt for AWD. Make no mistake if you enjoy spirited driving then the 2.0 turbo is the way to go, although the 1.6 turbo-diesel would be my interesting second choice. A 1.6-liter turbo diesel with 137 hp and 240 lb-ft and my tester with a 2.0-liter turbo with 252 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. There are 3 available engines, a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine, with 170 hp and 203 lb-ft of torque. ![]() There’s plenty of good new here, firstly the Equinox is 400 pounds lighter than the outgoing model and secondly it retains almost the same exterior dimensions. Colors aside the 2018 Chevrolet Equinox slots neatly in between the small Trax crossover and the three-row Traverse, which I will be switching into next. Call it what you want it you’ll never lose it in a parking lot. I had the 2018 Chevrolet Equinox 2.0 turbo in top Premier trim in an interesting shade of orange that GM calls Orange Burst Metallic. In a world that is filling up with SUVs, for at least the foreseeable future, it’s nice to drive one from a mainstream manufacturer that is fun to drive. ![]() ![]() ![]() With no files the Start menu will appear just like the old Windows 7 version with just one column.
